From the time we are little girls on the playground, women are sent very different messages than men are. We’re told to be careful, not to climb too high. In fact, studies show that little boys are given encouragement and told how to tackle physical challenges on their own, while young girls are given words of caution and more hands-on assistance.
Here’s the problem: all that coddling has consequences later in life. It shapes how we think about ourselves and what we can do. So as we unravel that “perfect girl” conditioning, there’s no better way to jumpstart our bravery muscles than to tackle a physical challenge.
